Me and my philosophy
Kate Bird
Based in the small Worcestershire town of Evesham, I'm a qualified college lecturer, meditation teacher, and spiritual mentor, with certificates, training and substantial experience in all of them. For over 25 years, my specialist subject has been spiritual education, which explores how to be and become more whole as a human being from the inside.
I am not aligned with any specific religion or tradition, believing and respecting, as the mystics do, that all of them come from and lead back to the same benevolent source of Being and Oneness that has always existed, and which we can all connect to at any time as our natural birthright. My real interest: the how-to My real interest lies in our inner journey rather than the outer path, and so all my classes and mentoring are about how to go within to discover your deep core essence, how to connect with something greater than yourself, and, very importantly, how to stay relaxed, grounded, good-humoured and realistic at the same time. It's really practical stuff, rather than a lot of theory. Journalist Born and brought up in the North East, I've lived in the Evesham area for over 20 years. My first mainstream career was as a journalist and I spent ten years working in London for national magazines and newspapers. College Tutor In 2003 I began re-training as a teacher at Evesham College and gained my Cert Ed from the University of Warwick. Thanks to the college I was able to successfully create and run my own personal and spiritual development courses as evening classes. Spiritual Companion Educator The first evening class I ran at Evesham College in 2005 was co-written with William Bloom. In 2006 I enrolled on his Open Mystery School, became certificated as a Spiritual Companion and have worked with William on the Spiritual Companions project ever since as a Spiritual Companion Educator. Meditation Teacher Meditation has been a part of my life since I first learned Transcendental Meditation in 1984 and I have studied with various teachers in the Zen, Hindu and Taoist traditions as well as more contemporary, conscious and holistic styles which don't align with a specific tradition. in 2012 I gained my Meditation Teacher's L3 Diploma from the British School of Meditation in Cheltenham, which is a nationally recognised educational award in the life-long learning sector. |
